Matcha House
Shopify Website Design Case Study (Mock Case)
Luxury Matcha • Hospitality • Ecommerce
Matcha House is an independently created Shopify website design case study developed by Soft Launch Creative.
Created as a luxury matcha and hospitality brand, this concept project explores how ecommerce, storytelling, subscriptions, content marketing, and hospitality partnerships can work together within a single digital experience.
The goal was simple:
Create a website that feels less like an online store and more like a destination.
Every page was intentionally designed to immerse visitors in the brand while supporting long-term customer relationships, customer retention, and business growth.
Project Type:
Independent Concept Project
Services:

The Challenge
Many ecommerce brands focus entirely on selling products.
The result is often a website that functions as a catalogue rather than an experience.
For Matcha House, the challenge was to create something different.
The website needed to support multiple audiences while maintaining a cohesive brand identity.
Customers needed a place to discover products.
Hospitality partners needed a place to explore wholesale opportunities.
New visitors needed a reason to connect with the story behind the brand.
Rather than creating separate experiences, the goal was to design a website where commerce, storytelling, education, and hospitality could coexist naturally.
Brand Direction
Matcha House was inspired by slow craftsmanship, premium hospitality, and the rituals surrounding ceremonial matcha.
The visual identity combines editorial layouts, warm neutral tones, generous white space, and thoughtful typography to create a calm and elevated experience.
Rather than competing for attention, the design encourages visitors to slow down, explore, and engage with the brand.
Every design decision was made to reinforce the idea that quality takes time.

Designing A Destination, Not A Store
One of the primary goals of the project was to create a website that feels immersive from the first interaction.
Instead of leading immediately with products, the customer journey begins with story.
Visitors are introduced to the philosophy behind the brand before being guided toward shopping, subscriptions, hospitality partnerships, and educational content.
This approach helps build trust while creating a more memorable customer experience.
The homepage was strategically designed to:
• Establish premium positioning
• Communicate brand values
• Showcase featured products
• Introduce hospitality partnerships
• Promote subscriptions
• Encourage deeper exploration

Ecommerce Strategy
The ecommerce experience was intentionally curated to reduce friction and simplify decision making.
Products were organized into clear categories and supported by clean layouts that allow the products and brand story to remain the focus.
The goal was not to overwhelm visitors with options but to create confidence throughout the purchasing process.
Key considerations included:
• Product discovery
• Collection organization
• Conversion-focused layouts
• Premium product presentation
• Mobile shopping experience

Subscription Experience
Long-term growth requires more than one-time purchases.
To support retention and recurring revenue, Matcha House includes a subscription experience designed to transform customers into long-term members of the brand community.
The subscription strategy focuses on convenience, consistency, and customer loyalty while creating a predictable revenue stream for the business.
This section demonstrates how strategic website design can support business objectives beyond the initial sale.

Hospitality Partnerships
A defining feature of the Matcha House concept is its hospitality-first approach.
Alongside direct-to-consumer ecommerce, the website includes dedicated pathways for cafés, restaurants, hotels, and hospitality partners.
These pages were designed to communicate credibility, showcase existing partnerships, and create opportunities for future collaboration.
The experience allows both retail customers and hospitality partners to navigate the website without feeling disconnected from the overall brand.

Content Marketing Strategy
To support long-term growth, Matcha House includes a dedicated editorial publication called The Journal.
The Journal serves as both a storytelling platform and a search engine optimization strategy.
Content categories include:
• Matcha Rituals
• Recipes
• Grower Stories
• Harvest Notes
• Hospitality Features
• Educational Content
By integrating content directly into the customer journey, the website creates opportunities to build authority, improve organic visibility, and strengthen customer relationships over time.

Interactive Customer Experience
The Matcha Ritual Quiz was created to help customers discover products aligned with their preferences and routines.
Rather than relying on customers to navigate product options independently, the quiz provides guidance through a more personalized experience.
Benefits of this feature include:
• Product recommendations
• Increased engagement
• Reduced purchase hesitation
• Improved customer confidence
The result is a shopping experience that feels both helpful and memorable.

Mobile Experience
Because a significant portion of ecommerce traffic originates from mobile devices, responsive design was treated as a priority throughout the project.
Layouts were designed to maintain visual impact while ensuring:
• Easy navigation
• Clear calls-to-action
• Strong readability
• Seamless shopping experiences
Every major touchpoint was reviewed through a mobile-first lens to create consistency across devices.
Final Outcome
Matcha House demonstrates how strategic Shopify website design can support far more than online sales.
The project combines ecommerce, content marketing, subscriptions, hospitality partnerships, and customer experience strategy into a single cohesive digital ecosystem.
While developed as a concept project, Matcha House reflects Soft Launch Creative's approach to creating websites that balance beautiful design with intentional business strategy.
